Green Drinks – The Future of Farming

December 4, 2025 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
£3 – £5
Longhorn, by Sam Joy

Farmers play a vital role in tackling climate change, supporting food security, and protecting biodiversity. In rural Sussex we enjoy the benefits of nearby farmland, but many of us know little about modern farming or the pressures farmers face.

Our December Green Drinks aims to change that. Three local farmers will join us to talk about their challenges and opportunities: Rick Goring from Wiston Estate, Ryan Gue from Huddlestone Farm, and Hugh Passmore from Applesham Farm. Their combined experience covers a successful vineyard, a highly modern dairy with robotic milking, and a wildlife friendly Downland sheep farm.

They will discuss how they are adapting to climate change, global tariff shifts, and new government rules on subsidies and inheritance tax. They will also explore emerging opportunities for farmers, including solar power, cheese production, regenerative farming, and the growing market for biodiversity offsets.

Tickets £5/£3 students.
