Scythe Fest

September 14 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Free
Scything along the river Ouse @Lewes Railway Land

Come together with the community at the Lewes Railway Land nature reserve for an afternoon celebrating the traditional art of wildflower meadow management.

It’s more than just conservation – it’s a celebration!  Watch scything demos, try it yourself, and enjoy autumnal crafts, music, and refreshments, including a taste of switchel – the haymaker’s (non-alcoholic) punch.

Scything is a gentle, effective way to support biodiversity: spreading wildflower seeds, maintaining healthy soil, and keeping brambles at bay.  It helps wildflowers return stronger, creating richer habitats for pollinators and other wildlife.

A chance to connect with nature, learn new skills, and enjoy the rhythms of land care — all in good company.

Meet at the far end of The Sidings or follow signs from the Linklater Pavilion.
