100 Mile Classroom connects schools, nature sites and green employers across the 100 mile Weald to Waves nature recovery corridor. To celebrate going back to school, we’ve launched a new film designed for schools and students to kick-start their nature recovery journey.  

The launch is timely, given recent reports that 28% of young people feel overwhelmed by eco anxiety, and 70% of teachers feel unqualified to talk about the climate and biodiversity crisis. 

At the heart of the 100 Mile Classroom are three guiding principles: co-creation, collaboration and equity. Rather than duplicating existing activity, the programme aims to fill gaps and join up opportunities. It will prioritise young people who face the greatest barriers to accessing nature and opportunities, including those living in areas of highest social and economic deprivation. 

The film has been designed for 11 – 16-year-olds in assembly, form time, or part of a subject-based discussion around nature recovery. It’s one of a growing suite of resources designed for schools to embed local nature learning in curriculum and extra–curriculum time. Getting more local nature content into schools is one aspect of 100 Mile Classroom, which also matches schools with local learning sites and is developing green career and skill pathways. 

The film was made by Brighton-based B Corp, Locate Productions, stars Peacehaven Community School and St Oscar Romeo Catholic School climate ambassadors and Knepp Wildland Foundation Young Guides, and was shot on Knepp Wildland and Iford Estate.
