Education and Engagement
100 Mile Classroom
The 100 Mile Classroom is an ambitious new programme bringing nature into learning for students aged 11 to 18. Run by the Knepp Wildland Foundation as part of Weald to Waves, it connects young people with the Sussex landscape while opening doors to green careers of the future.
From outdoor lessons to hands-on site visits and youth-led projects, students will explore, discover, and play a part in real nature recovery. The programme links schools with nearby recovery sites, supports teachers with curriculum-aligned resources in science and geography, and creates pathways into environmental work.
By tackling the green skills gap and prioritising access for those with fewer opportunities to get outdoors, the 100 Mile Classroom inspires the next generation of nature restorers and environmental leaders.
Project Aims
Reconnect young people with nature through local, landscape-based learning
Build pathways into green careers and environmental work
Prioritise access for students with limited learning opportunities and those in non-mainstream education
Align learning with national curriculum goals in science and geography
Blue Green Sussex Curriculum
Blue-Green Sussex Curriculum is a locally rooted education initiative that brings Sussex’s coastal and marine habitats into the classroom. By offering tailored online tools and resources, it helps teachers and learners explore local biodiversity, sustainability, and community-led conservation.
The curriculum connects existing national resources to Sussex-specific examples, making environmental education more relevant and engaging. As the project continues to grow, modules will also explore landscape and freshwater environments, building a fuller picture of nature recovery across Sussex.
This resource also includes a toolkit of real-life career stories, opportunities for young people to get involved with nature recovery, and green organisations, again with a focus on the local Sussex environment.
Project Aims
Integrate Sussex’s coastal, marine, freshwater, and landscape environments into classroom learning
Celebrate local biodiversity and promote sustainability education
Support teachers and students with accessible digital resources, and place-based follow-up activities
Link national curriculum content with a Sussex context to increase relevance and impact
Corridor Champions
The Weald to Waves Corridor Champions programme is building a grassroots movement of organisations and individuals who share the Weald to Waves vision for a connected landscape. Our champions are ambassadors for nature recovery, spreading awareness, inspiring land pledges, and strengthening community action along the corridor.
In return, Champions gain visibility, resources, and opportunities to learn and collaborate. From leading local projects to engaging the public or advocating for change, Corridor Champions play a vital role in bringing the Weald to Waves vision to life.
Project Aims
Create a network of trusted ambassadors for nature recovery
Build community engagement along the corridor through events and communications
Offer learning, tools, and resources to support aligned local action
Enable collaboration and knowledge-sharing across sectors and organisations

BioBox Loan Scheme
The BioBox Loan Scheme offers landowners, community groups, and local projects the tools to explore, record, and celebrate the wildlife around them. Each BioBox contains easy-to-use survey equipment, including bat detectors, moth trap, pond nets, and much more, making ecological monitoring accessible and engaging for all.
By submitting their sightings, users help build a clearer picture of biodiversity across the Weald to Waves corridor, guiding nature recovery efforts and tracking changes over time. The scheme empowers local action while generating valuable data for conservation.
Project Aims
Support hands-on wildlife monitoring across the corridor
Engage people with the nature on their doorstep
Generate data to map biodiversity and track ecological change
Inform conservation by guiding evidence-based decision

Collaborative Effort
The success of these projects has been thanks to our amazing partners, who have contributed their expertise and resources to the scheme. Without them, nature recovery on a landscape scale would not be possible.
